AS OF OCTOBER 13, 2008, THE NTWH BELSON BAKERY WILL TEMPORARILY SUSPEND ITS OPERATIONS UNTIL SPRING, 2009

Don’t worry!  Brother Curry’s Breads and Brother Curry’s Miraculous Dog Biscuits will return and once again resume baking and shipping its popular products with a target date to reopen sometime in June, 2009.

What has happened?

NTWH is facing a huge financial hurdle.  Due to the escalating price of flour and other raw ingredients, the sky-rocketing shipping prices, and the crippling fuel costs, coupled with a downturn of financial support for non-profits because of the economy, the NTWH Belson Bakery cannot currently make “ends meet.”

Brother Curry has been forced to make a difficult decision now, in order to insure that NTWH is around to provide future training workshops and vital services to persons with disabilities, including the NTWH Workshops for Wounded Warriors.  That decision is to temporarily close down the Belfast Maine Campus, including the Belson Bakery, until Spring 2009.  NTWH will suspend all NTWH Crosby workshops and Belson Bakery operations until then.

Brother Curry, the staff, and the NTWH Board are working diligently to create a new financial business plan that will allow NTWH to be self-sustaining and, at the same time, endeavor to secure the future of the NTWH Crosby Campus and The Belson Bakery in Belfast, Maine.

Brother Curry would like to extend his thanks to YOU, our loyal NTWH Store customers and supporters, for your past patronage of Brother Curry’s Breads and Brother Curry’s Miraculous Dog Biscuits.  We hope we can count on you when we return!

THANKS!

P.S.  You can still order copies of Brother Curry's cookbooks, "The Secrets of Jesuit Breadmaking," and "The Secrets of Jesuit Soupmaking"; as well as, the audio CD, "NTWH Celebrates Christmas", featuring the NTWH Cabaret, by calling the NY Office at 212-206-7789 or 800-618-6622.

The NTWH Belson Bakery

As every actor knows, it never hurts to have a good day job! The NTWH Belson Bakery fulfills Brother Curry's dream of integrating the art and skill of a bakery into the National Theatre Workshop of the Handicapped. Our theatre programs teach disabled persons that they can participate in society as productive members, and the NTWH Belson Bakery is a natural extension of the job training, communication skills, and self-reliance that we teach in the theatre program.

Students of the National Theatre Workshop of the Handicapped are trained in the fine art of baking bread and the mechanics of operating, managing, and marketing a commercial mail-order bakery. Interested students have an opportunity to complete an 18-week curriculum and become certified by the Retailer's Bakery Association. NTWH theatre programs offer students the chance to develop the confidence and the communication skills that so many disabled persons lack as a result of the isolation their disabilities have imposed upon them. The NTWH Belson Bakery offers our students the opportunity to apply those communication skills and confidence to a marketable job skill.

For more information or to request applications to these programs by mail, please call 212-206-7789 or e-mail admissions@ntwh.org.

The NTWH Belson Bakery sells four delectable varieties of bread, as well as special offerings created for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Advent and birthdays.

And, the NTWH Belson Bakery hasn't forgotten our canine friends. For years, dogs have served as guides and companions for the disabled and the able-bodied. In recognition of their irreplaceable places in our lives, the NTWH Belson Bakery is proud to sell Brother Curry's Miraculous Dog Biscuits, made with love and all-natural ingredients and available in original, rye, whole wheat, and not really chocolate. Our furry friends here at NTWH are very pleased, and we think yours will be too.

All profits from the Belson Bakery go to support The National Theatre Workshop of the Handicapped.
